What I’m doing now

This is a now page, last updated 8 days ago from Vigo, Spain.

Life

I still live in my hometown with my mom and brother. I’d love to get my own place, but the housing market here makes independence a bit challenging. At least I’m relatively close to the sea, and the sunsets have been beautiful lately.

Work

I’m a full-stack developer at a company that builds offshore maritime systems for ships. When I’m not coding, I’m drafting ideas for future blog posts that might eventually take form as essays.

Consuming

Currently reading “Infinite Jest” by David Foster Wallace. The footnotes alone could be their own book, but I hope it’s worth it. I’ve also been watching Prof. Jiang Xueqin’s videos. He has this way of talking about society and politics that’s actually interesting. Highly recommend.

Habits

I try to keep a daily journal (morning pages) to clear my head before starting work. I read almost every day and go for walks in nature as often as I can. Sometimes, I also play guitar or sketch for fun.

Inspirations

Lately, I’ve been fascinated by Antonio Gala and Jesús Quintero’s televised conversations. They prove that dialogue can still be a form of art. I’ve also been watching some David Foster Wallace interviews and, occasionally, revisiting videos by Luke Smith or George Hotz, though not as much as I used to. Oh, and this Aaron Swartz quote continues to live rent-free in my mind:

“Be curious. Read widely. Try new things. What people call intelligence just boils down to curiosity.”

Avoiding

Trying to cut down on TikTok and TV. Not because I want to be a monk or anything. I just want to pay attention to things again. Sometimes you have to sit there and feel completely bored before you can feel curious again.
